We went out for Valentine's Day Monday night since David had to work Tuesday night. We went to Texas Roadhouse and Cold Stone Creamery for Ice Cream. We gave Kenzie her Vday present after her shower. A very Hard to find Operetta Monster High Doll.

Dinner at Alamo Cafe with Great Aunt Kathy and Grandma and Grandpa

Connor's Angry Birds birthday party. Make your own angry bird and give it a unique talent. Kenzie made a green bird and said it dropped bomb eggs. She also made a pink one she said would distract the other birds so it's friends could go get the pig. She had extra time so she made some pigs too. They also had a huge slingshot to shoot balls at boxes, pigs and Connor's dad and sister sat behind making noises.

Movie Maker

There is a monster high video contest where you can win a Cupid Monster High Doll(impossible to find right now) so Kenzie decided she had to make a movie. She used her pod dock and ipod touch as her video equipment. She made a little stage area with a box and piece of fabric. She really wants to win but there are a ton of entries and some seem to be made by tech savvy adults. But she had fun doing it.

I had been telling Kenzie for awhile that she move the Monster High dolls and the furniture she got for Christmas into the doll house. She kept playing with it on the floor which was a mess. So she finally decided to do it. The first picture is probably halfway through her process. She basically tossed everything out onto the floor. The 2nd is her finished masterpiece complete with wallpaper(backs of the doll boxes and cards) and places for most of her dolls. She added Clawdeen Wolf's bed, Draculaura's coffin bed, Frankiestein's bed and her new Cleo De Nile Vanity she got for doing her bloodwork.

Labwork 2012

Getting Blood work done Saturday morning to test her thyroid and for diabetes. The lab was small and we had to wait for the man to come open the door. We had a cold front the night before so it was chilly. She took her Monster High doll with her for this too. She was brave and okay at first. Then nervousness set in as her turn came up. They let me go back with her even though it was against their policy. You can see how upset she was before it even started(the lab tech went to get a butterfly). The lab tech was really sweet and talked to her about Angry birds and Twilight. But she cried and tremored the whole time. She insisted on watching her and held my hand. This is much better than a few years ago when she had to sit in my lap and we had to hold her down. I am glad we got it over with!

We had told her we had bought her a Monster High gift for after her bloodwork. She was too upset to look at it at first. But pancakes at Denny's and talking to Nana on the phone finally helped her get over it. It was still early and we did not want to wake up Grandma.

Friday Night: Dinner at Cheddar's. She hates to leave home without a book(she has been very into the Lemony Snickets series) and a Monster High Doll.

Kenzie was hungry after Sunday School so we went to grab some tacos. The only tacos she will eat: egg and cheese. She wanted to go a nearby place and loves to sit by the tv and they give her the remote to watch kid shows .

Girly Saturday

Girly Saturday while David worked. We had breakfast then went to Sharkey's and she got a hair cut and nails done. She got a couple of inches off and long layers so it is shorter. She really likes it. She cut her bangs a little shorter since her stylist is going on maternity leave and we did not want them to grow out too fast.

off to the mall. Got some clothes for her at Penneys. Lots of fun neon.

She played outside for hours with the neighbors. Then later that night we watched Disney shows and DVRed episodes of Jane By Design. She loves to snuggle with Chief in my bed while watching tv.

She came home from school missing a molar. It finally came out in her apple!

Kenzie did great at her dental checkup. No complaints. She did the cleaning with her favorite Hygienist Miss Bobbi like a champ. The dentist said everything looks great and no cavities...and to expect for her molars/canines to continue falling out. 6 bottom and 6 top!

Real life angry birds. First they threw her sky ball at them and then started using her lemon twist to hit them. Her hair is tied back with a leaf and stem. Who knows why.

Beauty and The Beast in 3D

Kenzie came strolling in the room wearing my old Beast nightshirt tied at the side with a yellow duct tape bracelet with Beauty and the Beast written on it she made and said it was time to go see Beauty and The Beast. We had talked about seeing it Friday but then since David was off, I was thinking of switching to Saturday. But since she was so excited, we ended up going. We thoroughly enjoyed it and they did a great job with the 3D. Kenzie said it was enchanting. Amazingly enchanting. It is fun to get to share my favorite movies with her.

Then we went to McDonalds. Her choice, of course.

Our friends called us tonight and wanted to go to dinner. We had just gone to the library and were going to HEB to get something to cook but ended up meeting them. Kenzie had just thrown on her rag flip flops she made at Dance camp a coupld of years ago. She made herself at home waiting for our table at Chilis.

Dairy Queen

The only sweet thing about this trip to Dairy Queen with our friends was the ice cream. We had the most horrible service and dealt with the most imcompetent new staff and argumentative manager. It was so bad and pathetic that we were laughing about it later. But the new manager did get a scathing commentary on the DQ webpage from me and my friend called the corporate office today to report her. It was that bad.

Drama still happens. Obviously she needed to pick up her room. I told her to pick up the trash from the floor(she had cut the parts she wanted to keep off the Monster High boxes), and put her Monster high stuff and shoes up. And it becomes a dramatic event that takes 3x longer to have then it would to just pick up the stuff. I told her I was showing Grandma how she does not want to clean her room.

Kenzie's best friend had her birthday party in the back room of an Italian restaurant yesterday. They had pizza and then moved back the tables to enjoy a dance floor with a DJ.

Apparently 3 days of working on a routine for Showcase in gym that involves a lot of jumping has done in Kenzie's calf. She limped around for 2 days so played princess in bed last evening with heat and wanted dinner served in bed so she would not have to walk across the house.

Reading Benchmark

Kenzie got the highest score in her class on the Reading Benchmark test today. She scored 96 out of possible 100. The next highest grade was a 91. So proud of her reading skills! She does not have to do reading homework for 2 weeks!

Saturday in review. Breakfast at Freshly showered and playing with the dog, Starting laundry, breakfast at McDonalds, shopping at the mall(trying on an 80s inspired shirt...the 80s are back in fashion now and she is going to an 80s party this weekend. We got the shirt but she is not wearing for the party.), and dinner with friends at the new Buffalo Wings and Rings. Then she ended up spending the night with them. Inbetween we also watched Ferris Bueller's Day off.

First week of January

I am trying to do better about taking a picture a day, atleast with my cell phone. We will see how long that lasts.

January 3. Back to the regular schedule of school, homework, reading log etc. We also went to Chilis for dinner since it was kids eat free night. Kenzie is becoming very interested in Teen magazines now. She wore the braid Grandma did until Thursday night. We just kept washing her hair and it stayed. She still did not want to take it out then.

January 4 and 5....Chief likes to come lay by me as I am reading at night, Chief's other favorite place laying on David while watching tv. Kenzie's marker/art mess created when doing a project. She made a full calendar with all the months for David(minor problems she missed one month and none of the days matched up right. When he mentioned the days were off, she changed it to the date 2013. Guess she thought that would fix it)

January 6:Friday night Girls night with our friends. We ordered pizza and settled down to watch the season premiere of The Secret Circle and ended up watching 2 more 80's movies in preparation for Megan's 80's birthday party next week: Valley Girl and Better off Dead. Atleast my friend had seen them enough to know when to make them close their eyes, etc. It is amazing how many of the 80's teen movies were kind of inappropriate. I did not remember all of that. For our movie nights they always drag out pillows and blankets and watch from the floor.

Sat. morning we could not find Chief and we found out he made his way to Kenzie's unmade bed to snuggle up alone since we were all up.

Report Card

Kenzie got her report card today. She got all A's except for an 89 in Language Arts.

Reading 92, Language Arts 89, Math 97, Science 100 , Social Studies 98, and Es in Health, PE, Theater Arts, Music, Art and Conduct.

Kenzie got home from Uvalde, went immediately to Fiesta Texas with our friends. She rode 2 more thrill rides including the Poltergeist roller coaster and The Frisbee. Then she ended up spending the night with our friends. So we met them at Chuy's Friday night for dinner to get her back. She had a great time at Grandma and Grandpa's and at her sleepover. She was happy to see some of her new Christmas presents at home though too.

We had our friends over for dinner and exchanged gifts with the girls Christmas Eve Eve. Kenzie was thrilled to get the much coveted Monster High Wii Game and a very dainty soccer cleat necklace. And a bucket of goodies and small zebra blanket(like I got them....for them all to use when we all go to the movies) from us since I cannot seem to buy her friends stuff without buying for her too. FYI, her friend had put Kenzie's hair in pigtails with a headband.

We had a little incident since the younger girl wanted the monster high designer sketch book we got her sister. And Kenzie gave her a small fashion design sketchbook she had bought herself the day before(I mentioned it to her but she gave it without hesitation). That smoothed things over and I thought it was nice of Kenzie.

Thursday Fiesta Texas

My friend decided she wanted to take the girls to Fiesta Texas again on Thursday to ride more rides they did not get to the night before. So off we went. It was actually warm when we got there but got cold at night. We ended up being there from 3 to almost 9. Kenzie was very adventuresome and rode her first real adult rollercoasters/thrill rides including the Texas Scream that drops you down, the Pandemonium(a rotating roller coaster) and the Boomerang(3 loops). She was thrilled with them all and even rode alone on the boomerang when Megan got scared at the last minute. On the way out of the park around 8pm, Kenzie wanted to ride the boomerang one more time. And Megan changed her mind again at the last minute so she was alone. And the thing went up the track and got stuck. For over 30 minutes in the cold. By this point, we had our jackets on and she had fortunately taken her warm fur lined one. I was the only parent that went to the platform to wait and they did not make me leave. At one point they talked about maybe having to go lead them each down had by hand down a ladder! Yes, Mom was freaking out. Thankfully it slowly started to move down. I mean very slowly but it inched it's way down. Kenzie was fine. She was happy they gave them free hot chocolate and a fast pass for rides. But we were done for the night! She wanted to go again as soon as it was fixed! So proud of how brave she was!

Fiesta Texas with friends

Wednesday night she went to Fiesta Texas Holiday in the Park with our friends and spent the night with them. She had been dying to spend the night with them for days since she was unable to Sunday night when they had a sleepover with the younger girl's friend. It started to drizzle and then rain so they left before 8 pm. But they had a great time, took home candy apples, and watched A Christmas Story after that.

Last day before winter break

Pajama day at school. They had to wear their 5th grade t shirts though. She was Loaded down with bags of candy, prizes, presents, and a backpack full of papers. I went to the Winter party at school and helped the teacher.

Her teacher's 90 something year old Grandma made these ornaments for the kids. Her teacher also gave them a book and bag of candy.

Holiday in the Park

We had such a great time at Fiesta Texas Holiday in the Park Sunday. The weather was cold but not raining. It was not that crowded. She was able to ride rides, we got to see the shows, visit with Santa, and look at the lights.

The Majesty of Christmas Nativity play was wonderful. It was a musical with live animals like sheep, donkey and a camel. The angels flew across the stage and in the audience. The animals and wise men also came through the audience. These were from my cell phone.

They did not have a big choir concert at a hotel like last year. They had one after the PTA meeting this week along with strings and chimes. It was a madhouse in the school cafeteria and standing room only....David and my Mom were mad some lady stood with her iPad and blocked their view. I was up by the front stuck with other parents. It was hard to take pics due to the layout of the gym(I was standing behind a Huge C structure (as in A, B, C) so had to lean around and avoid getting in people's way and deal with them being in my way. I was told not to use a flash. I did not have my low light lens on. So I just took a few and called it done.

I am so glad Kenzie loves to read! She and I are at the library atleast twice a week. We put books on hold that we want to read. She loves using the self checkout. She is currently reading my Twilight books.

Kenzie spent the night with our friends last Saturday night. The girls were getting their pictures taken at Penney's the next morning so they slept in sponge rollers. Of course, Kenzie wanted hers done too. She wore it curly Sunday and Monday.

I planned on taking Kenzie's Christmas pics Saturday morning and woke up to a rain storm. Then was going to try that evening but she wanted to play and it was really windy. So we decided to do them Sunday morning in my Mom's house. Since she was already dressed, we decided to go try the park anyway. It was chilly and windy. And it was later than I wanted so the sun was already bright. I used my 50 mm lens that I still am not used to. So it was hard to get decent shots. But atleast we took some.

By my Mom's formal pink and burgundy tree. It was hard to get in a good are with my 50 mm lens in the front room since my Mom has so much furniture.

The light on this side of the living room was more natural light so when I had my white balance set for indoors, they came out blue. I did my best to color correct them but they are not totally right.

David went and bought Kenzie the game Logo and they tried to play it. David said it was harder than it looked. Kenzie ended up winning. Although he did well on things like KFC and Long John Silvers.

Middle School electives fair

The 5th graders were invited to the Middle School for an Electives fair. They heard the choir sing, the orchestra and band play, Theater arts perform a bit of The Wizard of Oz and heard about Art, Technology, AVID(pre-AP class club), and Spanish electives. They get to choose their top 5 and will be placed in either 1 or 2 electives. It depends on how things go with the state and the STAAR exam as they may have to take another math class instead of the 2nd elective. She was interested in choir, theater arts, Art and Avid. I think she is choosing choir as number one and Art as number 2 choice. Kenzie enjoyed looking around the school. The teachers and counselors were very nice and helpful. She is very excited about Middle School now.

Last Soccer game

They might have not won a game all season, but The Strikers grew together as a team and started playing well. The coaches were so supportive of the kids and made them all feel like stars. Mackenzie says she loves soccer now, is sad this season is over and is ready for it to start in the Spring in March. We convinced the coach that he wants to coach again in the Spring so hopefully we will have some of same players returning too. Instead of trophies, we decided to get the kids team t shirts. The kids love them and it is fun that we got their signatures put on the back too.

And it was actually colder this morning at 8 am than it was last week...she got to wear her under armor again.

Soccer medal

We had our last practice/soccer party Wednesday night. The kids had fun just playing soccer against eachother and parents/coaches. We had pizza, cupcakes and other goodies. The coaches gave each kid a medal. Kenzie actually scored a goal at the practice game and almost scored 2 others(our nets are small...if they were the field nets they would have been in). When it got dark, I gave all the kids glow bracelets so they were playing Glow Soccer in the dark. They were all playing so hard that they are sweaty in the pictures.

Then I took her and the neighbor girls to Trunk or Treat at a nearby church. They had a scavenger hunt activity where they had certain tasks to do at each station like make a mummy out of a baby doll and toilet paper.

Fright Fest

She wanted to dress like Monster High for Fright Fest so we put together a mismatched outft, did her makeup and temporary tattoos.

She started out posing with the zombies and vampires, but then Rockville was pretty creepy with decorations and zombies and vampires sneaking up on people so she got spooked and did not want to get close to any of them after that. We did not pay the 7 dollars a person for the haunted house because it had a long line and said no kids 12 and younger. We were glad we did not since she got spooked by the people walking around. The ones with chainsaws in Crackaxel Canyon really made her run past.

We only got to the Looney Tunes show. We got there about 5:30. Some of the shows were over, the 6:15 show was already full and the finale did not start til 9:15 and we did not want to stay that late. Getting out of the parking lot was already a nightmare when we left at 8:30

Her fuzzy green werewolf hat we got her. These were hugely popular and I literally got the last green one available in the hat store.

We went with our friends to the SAWS company picnic at Time Warner Park. Her Uncle works there so their whole family goes every year. It was just 5 dollars a ticket and the kids had a blast. Kenzie was probably most excited about getting her own caricature since she has always liked the ones David and I have from our honeymoon. We were first in line with the artists when they opened up. Good thing because the lines grew pretty fast.

This really fast spinning ride where the kids pumped their arms to go faster. they did this about 4 or 5 times. They also had a bouncy obstacle course.

We picked up her ceramic piece from Clay Casa after her soccer game. They played good today. At the half it was 1 to 1. But they had to put in one of our new goalies the 2nd half and we ended up losing. But the Coach and another Dad told Mackenzie she was doing much better.

Skating again

We went skating with our friends this past weekend. Kenzie was terrified to start again and was afraid she would fall again. It took awhile to get her back on the floor with the skate mate and on the carpet alone or with Madison. By the end she was doing well with the skate mate alone and on carpet but was still terrified to just hold onto the wall or hold my hand without the skate mate.

My friend and I had a Footloose viewing party Friday night with the girls to watch the original movie before taking them to the new one. The girls loved it. So we took them on Sunday to see the new Footloose. We all loved the new one too...

Soccer game 10/15/11

Kenzie's soccer game was a good one today. We played the team our first game was against and their coach even complemented our coach on how much better our team is doing. We still lost, but they played hard and did well. The coach was really proud of them.

Kenzie and I both had the day off for Columbus Day. So we went to Clay Casa and she painted a dragon.

Just Dance 3

Just Dance 3 came out today. We had preordered it. Kenzie was excited because some of her fave songs are on it. In the pics with her turned towards the camera she was actually spinning around and I caught her in action having fun.

There was even a halloween song with funny halloween characters.

The new Rick Riordan book came out. Kenzie has fallen asleep reading it the past 2 nights. She is 200 something pages into the 500 something page book in just a few days. This is the sequel to the Lost Hero book that she would not put down that night we went to dinner at BJ's Brewhouse together. Her 2nd grade teacher is going to borrow it from her after she finishes reading it. He borrowed our last one too. He was the teacher that got her into the Lightning Thief series.

Here is a cellphone picture of Kenzie's school picture. She loves how her hair looks since she says it looks wavy or curly. Umm. Means she did not comb it before the picture. We got the signature on the pics since it was free with the package we bought. Kenzie really wanted it. But even though I clearly wrote do not capitalize the k in Mackenzie...they did. And she hates that! And they forgot to send part of our order. Their customer service department apparently cannot respond for 2 days though. And I can get them redone but it will take 4 to 6 weeks. So I think she will have to live with it.

update: they actually called my cell phone this morning and are going to send corrected pics in 7 to 10 days. That will make her happy!

She got her soccer pics taken monday at practice. Our friend's team has a professional sports photo service come out and take their pics instead of using the one SAYSAT uses so she let us get ours taken then too. So we got trading cards for everyone with these. I did not take my camera so this was quickly snapped with my cell behind the photographer. They will clear out anything in the background that does not belong and her shot was taken from a better angle so alot of the stuff did not show anyway.

They played such a good game today. We were all impressed in how much they are improving and working together. It was really exciting. They played well as a team, but still lost 4 to 2. They had about 5 "almost goals" though. It was cool and breezy so was a perfect morning to be on the field. There was a tournament and some outdoor sports activity thing that took up a bunch of the parking lot so it was quite a zoo. We were glad we had to be there early for the pictures.

My hairdresser took out Kenzie's black and white feather and replaced it along with neon green ones. It looks really cool with her soccer jersey and pulled back in a ponytail too. It almost matches.

Our good friends joined the YMCA so Kenzie is going to start going with them. They already did the orientation class and tonight was the first time working out. She did the machines(also did the treadmill) and climbed pretty high on the floor to ceiling rock wall. It was really high.

David finally went to the eye Doctor after 3 years! He had to get his eyes dilated so got to wear these fancy shades. Kenzie of course swiped them to try them on. The Dr. told him what I had already figured out. The boy needs bifocals! If prisms weren't enough...He has been having more trouble reading lately. He will get no line bifocals in a few weeks so I think he will see a big change.

When I picked Kenzie up Saturday morning, Megan decided she wanted to spend the day with us. We just did errands and shopped. While we were at the Kohl's the girls decided they had to try on these dresses before we left. I almost got the zebra one for Kenzie but then had no clue where she would wear it and it just would not work as a Christmas dress. Then we just went home and they played all day. Saturday night we took them back to their house and Kenzie stayed the night again.

Our Mini Prom

My friend and I had tried to take our girls to see the Disney movie Prom when it was in theaters, but it left the theaters too soon. So she said then that when it came on DVD we would have our own Prom at her house. So on Friday night, we had a Prom for the girls. They got their hair and nails done and wore their fanciest dresses. They each brought a male Monster High doll as their date. We made lime sherbert/gingerale punch, Kenzie made duct tape and flower corsages, we ate pizza/popcorn/cookies, watched the movie and of course had a big dance. They moved their couch and chair out of the living room so they had a dance floor and my friend made a Music CD with good Prom songs. The girls had so much fun...so did the adults...There were 4 girls, 3 moms, a Grandma and Aunt.

It was hot...Atleast there were trees at the park to shade the parents and a breeze. Kenzie was really red and hot though. She likes the coaches and worked really hard to listen to them.

Soccer Update

Our soccer practices are going to be Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 at the park where our friends practice in Schertz. The colors will be neon yellow/black and the name is the Strikers. Her first game is September 10. The coach seemed really nice on the phone. We went and got all of her equipment tonight so she is ready for the first practice. She picked color coordinated neon yellow and black ball and silver/black/neon yellow cleats. It is going to be so Hot!

First Day of 5th Grade

She got up by herself and was getting dressed when I got in there. She wanted pancakes for breakfast. She was really excited about her first day.

We got to school by 7 am so she can time the breakfast line to see if she will be able to make it for patrol at 7:15. She could do it if she hurried.

I took Kenzie to North Star Mall today to make a bracelet like her best friends got for their "back to school" gift. Their mom works at the KIOSK that sales the bracelets and charms similar to Pandora bracelets. So Kenzie had fun creating hers. She ended up with a panda, zebra, yin yang symbol, cell phone, icecream sundae, bling beads and green glittery zebra beads. It took several tries to find the combo she liked and we liked. At one point she had a green disco ball in the middle, then a flower...She had black and silver beads where the bling beads now are. But she said this combo was more "Me".

Safety patrol meeting

We had to go to a meeting for safety patrol today. Officer Keough did a funny talk on safety and expectations for the safety patrol and the gym teachers also gave out info. The most exciting part for Kenzie was getting her safety patrol belt, button and badge. She will be doing am and pm patrol.
